the magazine

i love magazine racks. if i have time to kill, or an extra twenty on me, i naturally gravitate to magazine racks. i can't help it. i believe the magazine is the second ultimate form of media (ask me what number 1 is). you don't need wi-fi or a laptop to access it. you don't necessarily need a book bag to carry it around and they're relatively affordable. it wont smudge your fingers and does not require such strategic manipulating like that of a large newspaper. it won't need to be rewound or paused or recorded to fully appreciate the message. it is self-contained and provided in a malleable and light weight package. it can be rolled up, folded, and easily stored and disposed of. the information is presented on a clean glossy paper that is cool and gentle to the touch. the information itself is clear, concise and read in design-conscious formats. the graphic details and accompanied photos are feasts for the eyes. it is also guaranteed that the latest or the next edition is up to date and full of new information to absorb. for me, the popular sections on music, video games, technology, fashion and culture sections of magazines always fall short to the art section. i am always overwhelmed at the amount of 'knowledge' that can be found within a single art magazine, let alone the entire art section. flipping through paintings, photographs, drawings, occasionally reading an interesting artist' statement, i can spend an hour or two easily. and %100 of the time, i will come across work that is so unique, i text myself the artist' name and google him/her later on. i love magazines.
